High-voltage transmission towers carrying conductors across open terrain
Transmission

Transmission line design from 63 kV to 500 kV

Full overhead transmission engineering, from PLS-CADD line modeling and structure spotting to lattice tower and steel pole design, sealed for construction by a senior Professional Engineer.

Overview

Lines engineered for safety, reliability and cost

Overhead transmission lines carry the highest voltages on the grid, so every span has to be right. MADI Consulting delivers complete transmission line design built in the Power Line Systems suite, the same software relied on by utilities across North America. We model the full line in PLS-CADD, design the structures in PLS-TOWER and PLS-POLE, and verify clearances against the codes that govern your jurisdiction.

Because a senior P.Eng. leads the work, you get engineering judgment on structure selection, span optimization and load cases, not just a set of drawings. The result is a transmission line package that passes utility review and builds cleanly in the field.

Capabilities

What a transmission package includes

Line routing and structure spotting

Optimized PLS-CADD structure spotting that balances span length, structure cost and terrain to deliver an efficient line profile.

Conductor and sag-tension design

Conductor selection, sag-tension calculation and stringing charts across all governing weather load cases.

Structure and foundation loads

Lattice tower and steel pole loading in PLS-TOWER and PLS-POLE, with reactions for foundation and anchor design.

Code and clearance compliance

Ground, building and crossing clearances verified to CSA C22.3 No. 1, NESC and California GO 95.

Crossing and corridor packages

Engineered crossing packages for railways, highways, waterways and existing utility corridors.

Stamped deliverables

Plan and profile drawings, structure schedules and calculation packages sealed by a Professional Engineer.

How we work

A clear path from data to sealed drawings

  1. 01
    Scope and data review

We review survey, LiDAR, geotechnical and existing-line data to set up an accurate PLS-CADD terrain and feature model.

  2. 02
    Modeling and analysis

Structures are spotted, conductors strung and every weather case analyzed for clearance, loading and uplift.

  3. 03
    Structure and foundation design

Lattice towers and poles are checked in PLS-TOWER and PLS-POLE, producing foundation reactions and anchor loads.

  4. 04
    Sealed deliverables

Plan and profile sheets, schedules and calculations are issued for review and sealed for construction.
